Fathers, Sons and Brothers A weekend together with nature Just as we may grow from boys into men,
so as men we grow from fathers of boys to be fathers of men, grandfathers of boys. This is a weekend for sons and their fathers to explore their growth as boys and as men by living together in the peaceful setting of Wiltshire woodland in late spring. We will share preparation of food, physical work, ritual, play and other daily duties. There will be a simple structure for the weekend which will allow scope for the group to shape the time and space to suit its needs. We will begin by sharing food on Friday evening at 1830, and we ask you to arrive before then to assist in forming the group. After food we will join for a sharing time and to discuss the structure of the weekend. On Saturday we will rise shortly before dawn in order to welcome the new day with a manly ritual. Later, after breakfast, we shall work together in groups on a practical project. In the afternoon and evening we will work and play together, share preparation of food, and finally join together for a campfire to tell the story of the day. On Sunday we will cook, eat, play and hang out together before saying good bye to each other, followed by lunch. The weekend is open to fathers and their son, sons and grandsons. You must come with your father or your son. Step relationships are included. Sons should be at least of school age - check with us if in doubt. This is the sixth annual successive Fathers Sons and Brothers weekend at Hazel Hill Wood to be organised and led by Henry Fryer and Wynn Rees. Hazel Hill is a beautiful, secluded, privately owned 70-acre mixed wood eight miles from Salisbury. Indoor facilities here include kitchen, heated sleeping lofts, hot showers, open fires and eco-friendly latrines. We invite you to bring a tent to sleep in. The group will be limited to no more than thirty participants. The cost, which includes food for all meals from Friday evening to Sunday lunch, is £130 per father-and-son pair, plus £42 for each additional family member. Payment of a non-refundable deposit of £35 per family to the address overleaf will secure places on a first come, first served basis. Cheques should be made payable to Wynn Rees. |
